COMMERCIAL DIRECTORS

  David Anspaugh

With a sure hand for underdog dramas, Emmy-winning producer/director David Anspaugh cut his teeth on 16 mm sports films during his years at the University of Indiana and then studied film at U.S.C.’s School of Film and Television. After graduating he worked as an associate producer on the acclaimed television police drama Hill Street Blues and directed episodes of St. Elsewhere and Miami Vice.

Anspaugh made his feature debut with the touching sports drama Hoosiers. The memorable tale of an Indiana high school basketball team that becomes an unlikely contender for the state championship, the film put Anspaugh on the map as a director and earned star Dennis Hopper both Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor.

After directing Fresh Horses and In the Company of Darkness Anspaugh directed the acclaimed drama RUDY, the tale of a diminutive football player who wants to play for Notre Dame which has become an American classic among other films that live forever on seasonal television.

Throughout his feature career Anspaugh has been called to direct outstanding commercials, including work for Volkswagen, Nuveen, Spaulding and US Trust. Like many intense feature directors, Anspaugh loves the commercial making discipline, because of the opportunity for a creative process with short (compared to features) turn-around.

In recent years David directed Wisegirls, Glitter and The Game of Their Lives, another against-all-odds, true-life sports drama, this time about the 1950 U.S. soccer team and its bid for the World Cup.

David is currently prepping the feature COOK, an emotionally compelling and deeply human story, which Envision is financing and will produce.

  Mike Roberts

Like some of the very best storytellers, Michael Roberts found his calling as a kid when his raconteur Irish born/GM Mechanical engineer father told him complicated, textured and dream inducing bedtime stories.

As a student Mike was self-fed on a diet of comic books (yes the Rocketeer is his favorite) with Zebecks and Spielberg film chasers. This may explain why Roberts current artistic voice of choice has become animation. Says Roberts, “Animation allows me to be uncompromising in how I choose to tell you a story. I am never bound by scope in either direction as I can make my vista, palate and character as big or small as I want. Software is the key to get over the limitations of traditional technique.”

As a Director Mike likes doing commercials because the present a challenge in telling an enthusiastic story via a journey of abandonment. He feels that every story/product demands its own voice and technique offers almost infinite paths to how to best tell it. He has done spots for Honda and Burger King, assorted music videos and long format projects and in long format development with several of his story ideas.

Mike and his actress wife Bree Williamson (One Life to Live, Gossip Girl and Haven) have a little boy who they now carry the bedtime story tradition with. By way of Toronto, New York and Paris Mike lives and weaves his stories in a converted garage in West Los Angeles where he is surrounded by art, music, theater, literature, film and love.

FEATURE FILMS

Envision Media Arts is a film, TV & commercial production company engaged in financing and producing films that appeal to global audiences.

EMA has several Film business models at work.  EMA can self-finance films up to $1.5 million.  In this model we look for contained projects in the thriller, action and horror genres that have international appeal.  In addition we finance lighter independent films that have broad commercial appeal.

EMA also looks to develop a wide spectrum of larger budgeted traditional studio projects.  In this model, EMA will option and develop materials and usually partner with a larger entity to set up at a studio.

EMA has also established a reputation for discovering unpublished manuscripts; specializing in both manuscript and book adaption’s for the big screen.

When it makes creative sense, EMA looks to bring their commercial director client list into film projects, offering some of the best story tellers and visual artists working in short form a chance to expand their talents.  Lastly, EMA looks for distressed films that are either in production or post-production and need capital to finish.    While we are very discerning with our investments, we appreciate the opportunity to help other filmmakers complete their film and bring it to market.
